Ethical Classics - Our business

Ethical Classics develops stylish, ethical clothing made of various organic material. We have started on September 18, 2007 in The Hague, The Netherlands, and from Thursday 1st of May 2008, the UK branch of Ethical Classics has gone live.

Motivation

The idea for Ethical Classics was founded one year earlier. Joanneke Kruijsen, founder of Ethical Classics, was looking for stylish, ethical clothing for her work, but she could not find it. She made one item herself, but she just did not have the time to do more. Not only to provide herself with an option of stylish, ethical clothing but others as well, she decided to start Ethical Classics.

Ethical in a nutshell: our four business principles

The clothing industry tends to b hard and sometimes very hard on the people and the planet while producing cheap clothing. Because Joanneke was and still is convinced that this can be otherwise, Ethical Classics works according to four basic business principles:
• Human friendly: fair working conditions for all the people involved in the production chain.
• Eco friendly: little as possible environmental impact during production, no use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, short as possible transport distances and recycling of waste.
• Fashion differently: no pressure to buy a new wardrobe every season or to be hyper slim, Ethical Classics offers stylish and comfortable clothes that will last more than one season.
• Corporate social responsibility: we consider the impact of our activities on people and the environment both inside and outside the business.
